Polaneczky: Book gives twist to classic kids songs
"Take Me Out of the Bathtub and Other Silly Dilly Songs," by Alan Katz and David Catrow (Simon & Schuster, $6.99)
This collection of song parodies gives classic kids' songs like "Row, Row, Row Your Boat" a hilarious twist - a good laugh for the whole family.
From "Stinky, Stinky Diaper Change" to the tune of "Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star" to "Take Me Out of the Bathtub" to the tune of "Take Me Out to the Ball Game," these songs all are from a kid's point of view. With David Catrow's illustrations, you're bound to stay on each colorful and funky page for quite a while.
The paintings are in a way cluttered, with a lot of different details squeezed on to the pages. This is a really fun book to bring on road trips, and after singing a couple of the songs, everyone is in a great and cheery mood.
Alan Katz also has other books full of "silly dilly songs," including "Smelly Locker: Silly Dilly School Songs," "Are You Quite Polite?: Silly Dilly Manners Songs," "Where Did They Hide My Presents?: Silly Dilly Christmas Songs" and the just-as-silly sequel, "I'm Still Here in the Bathtub: Brand New Silly Dilly Songs."
The book says ages 2-6, but I think that this is really a fun book for all ages, since you're never to old to sing funny songs!
